Skye Blue’s rise in AEW has been impressive, especially in her transition to a heel persona. However, a recent fan trolling incident directed toward her has underscored the ongoing issue of sexism and disrespect within wrestling fan culture.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that during the recent ROH tapings, a man with a child with him in the front row made derogatory remarks towards Skye Blue throughout the match, despite efforts from nearby spectators to intervene.
This led to the official in charge of the match, Referee Aubrey Edwards having to step in to address the situation. Moreover, the security personnel was eventually called to remove the disruptive fan, but things escalated when he resisted and with his child accompanying him, the situation got even more troubling. The incident had an impact on Skye Blue who immediately left the ring.
Following support from her peers like WWE’s Chelsea Green and TNA star Gisele Shaw, Aubrey Edwards who witnessed the entire incident took to her X to break her silence. She stated that she would intervene for all her co-workers in such situations believing that heckling and inappropriate behavior had no place in wrestling.
“If you yell disgusting, vile, hateful things at my coworkers, I will make sure your ass gets kicked out. There is no place for that in wrestling. Heckling is fine, but when you’ve made the performers (me included) feel uncomfortable in their place of work, you’ve gone too far.”
The Skye Blue heckling incident serves as a sobering reminder that despite progress, sexism and disrespect still persist in wrestling fandom. It emphasizes the ongoing need for vigilance in ensuring the safety and dignity of all participants and fans at live events to protect the honor and dignity of in-ring performers who put their bodies on the line for the entertainment of the fans.
