Saudi Arabia Wants to Host WWE WrestleMania or Royal Rumble As Part of New Deal

WWE’s decade-long deal with Saudi Arabia is still going strong as there are still quite a few events left as part of their ongoing deal. While the next Premium Live Event is the King and Queen of The Ring event, it appears Saudi Arabia plans on hosting WrestleMania or the Royal Rumble as part of their new deal.

ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported today that Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced the signing of a “strategic agreement” between Riyadh Season and the UFC, furthering the partnership that began after WWE and UFC merged under TKO Group Holdings.

In the same article, Alalshikh revealed that a significant enhancement to Saudi Arabia’s agreement with WWE is expected to be announced later this month. Specifically, he mentioned plans to potentially bring one of WWE’s major events, either January’s Royal Rumble or WrestleMania, to Saudi Arabia.

“Alalshikh said an enhancement to Saudi Arabia’s existing agreement with WWE will be announced later this month. Specifically, Alalshikh is looking to bring January’s annual Royal Rumble or WWE’s top event, WrestleMania, to Saudi Arabia.”

Both the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania have never been held outside of North America, so relocating such a major event to Saudi Arabia would obviously lead to a ton of criticism and controversy.

WWE previously held the “Greatest Royal Rumble” event in Saudi Arabia several years ago, which marked the early stages of the company’s relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We’ll have to wait and see whether the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania will end up taking place in Saudi Arabia somewhere down the line.
