WWE is preparing for the King and Queen of The Ring premium live event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 25. However, some matches originally slated for Monday Night RAW were unexpectedly removed from the broadcast and moved to live events instead. The reason for this change has been revealed.
As seen during this week’s Monday Night RAW, Gunther secured his spot in the second round of the King of the Ring tournament, where he will face the winner of the upcoming Rey Mysterio vs. Kofi Kingston match. On top of that, Ilja Dragunov and Jey Uso each won their first-round matches. On the women’s side, Lyra Valkyria, Zoey Stark and Iyo Sky won their own matches.
WWE made a surprising move by shifting the King of the Ring match between Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio, along with the Queen of the Ring match between Shayna Baszler and Zelina Vega, from Monday Night RAW to live events this week. This unexpected change caught many fans off guard as many fans felt this was just a case of false advertising on WWE’s part.
According to Fightful Select, WWE opted to hold some King and Queen of the Ring tournament matches at non-televised live events due to time constraints. With the WWE King and Queen of the Ring 2024 show scheduled for May 25, there’s not enough time to feature all the tournament bouts exclusively on television.
This allows the tournament to progress smoothly without overloading the televised programming. Although fans won’t see these matches on TV, the decision helps maintain the timeline leading up to the event in Saudi Arabia.
Some of the WWE talent whose matches got shifted to live events were made aware of this fact at the very last minute as well. We’ll have to wait and see who will emerge victorious in the King and Queen of The Ring tournaments, which could significantly elevate the winners’ careers.
