WWE fans were disappointed to hear about the company’s latest round of talent releases. The reason behind these new cuts has now been revealed and it’s something fans expected.
Last month, WWE truly shocked the wrestling community by releasing several prominent stars, including Xyon Quinn, Xia Li, Jinder Mahal, Von Wagner and Cameron Grimes.
This week, the trend continued as the company bid farewell to more talent, notably from NXT. The recent wave of releases encompassed recognizable names such as Ezekiel Balogun, Julian Baldi, Trey Bearhill, Emms Diaz (known for the WWE Roku Channel series “WWE: Next Gen”), Valentina Feroz, Drew Gulak, Keyshawn Leflore, Darrell Mason, Vlad Pavlenko, and Kiyah Saint.
Even Boa found himself among those released. However, WWE possibly saved the best for last as they ended up releasing Gable Steveson as well, which many fans were surprised about.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the recent WWE talent cuts involved performers the company didn’t currently see potential in. Meltzer explained that WWE tends to cut talents who don’t progress at a satisfactory rate, and most of those released were deemed to be lacking in progress. He also mentioned that none of the insiders he spoke with about the cuts felt that any of them were significant mistakes.
The announcement of these talent releases has fueled speculation about the future direction of WWE’s NXT brand and how these departures might affect upcoming shows and storylines. The release of wrestlers is always a difficult part of the industry, but hopefully, each of those let go will find new opportunities elsewhere.
