Braun Strowman made his WWE debut in 2015 but it wasn’t until 2020 that he reached the top of the mountain in the company, but he was supposed to become a world champion earlier than that. In fact, Strowman admitted he was frustrated after Vince McMahon scrapped his World Title plans.
Goldberg stunned the wrestling world by defeating The Fiend in Saudi Arabia in February 2020 to capture his second Universal Championship. His reign was short-lived, lasting less than a month, as he lost the title to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36 during the Pandemic Era.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, The Monster Among Monsters shared his frustration with Vince McMahon’s leadership style, revealing that plans for his own world title run were abruptly canceled. Strowman explained how McMahon’s unpredictable decisions often left talent in the dark, which only made talent frustrated and angry.
“I can’t remember what documentary it is. I start off talking at the beginning of it; it shows the full circle where, at one point, we were getting close for me to be the champion, but something happened and Vince had changed his mind on it. And the show comes to this interview after I had this meeting with him, and I was pissed off about it.
Because I was like, ‘I don’t know what I’m not doing right, what I’m not doing wrong!’ this and that. And that whole documentary leads up on me being told that it’s not my time to be champion. And it led to me beating Goldberg to become the Universal Champion. And it’s so crazy to see all that comes to fruition in the story.”
Braun Strowman has also revealed his in-ring status following his shocking return on RAW this week. Regardless, only time will tell whether The Monster Among Monsters will get another World Title reign eventually.
