The Rock teamed up with Roman Reigns for his first advertised match in 11 years, facing Seth Rollins & Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. After grueling battle lasting nearly 45 minutes, The Rock and Reigns emerged victorious, with The Rock securing the win by pinning Rhodes. With that said, WWE has now refuted a report that The Rock was several hours late for his WrestleMania 40 match.
Earlier this month, The Rock faced criticism for his tardiness during events leading up to WrestleMania 40. According to two insiders who spoke with TheWrap, Johnson arrived three hours late before his main event match at WrestleMania 40. Similarly, he was two hours behind schedule for WWE World, a WWE fan event in Philadelphia leading up to WrestleMania 40, resulting in boos from the crowd and negative feedback from local Philadelphia media.
A WWE insider explained that Johnson’s late arrival was due to other WWE commitments and traffic issues in Philadelphia, which delayed his journey to the WWE World venue in Center City. However, this explanation did little to appease fans and the press, who expected punctuality from a major star like Johnson.
Chris Legentil, WWE’s executive vice president for Talent Relations and Head of Communications, offered a different perspective. He told TheWrap that Johnson was not only on time for WrestleMania but was also hours early to help with rehearsals and was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire run.
“Dwayne was not only on time for WrestleMania, he was hours early to help with rehearsal — and a pleasure to work with throughout the entire run.”
The Rock showed up almost two hours late for his WWE World appearance as well. Regardless, The Rock is also eyeing a return at WrestleMania 41, so we’ll have to see what WWE will have planned for him then.
