Night 2 of the 2024 WWE Draft turned out to be more than exciting. While the draft itself had a lot of surprises to entertain the fans, an appearance from Patrick Mahomes lit up the show. However, his appearance was not just a regular celebrity appearance that is usually seen on WWE TV.
During the 4/29 episode of the red brand, Jey Uso had the numbers game against him when Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, and Logan Paul all surrounded the ring to take him down. Like his classic punch with brass knuckles in hand, Logan Paul borrowed the Superbowl Rings from Patrick Mahomes but instead landed a right hand on McDonagh.
Following that, Braun Strowman also made a surprising return and went on to confront Mahomes when Jey Uso cooled things down. Dave Meltzer, during a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, addressed Mahomes’ appearance on the show and revealed that his role was more than just a celebrity guest because of his sponsorship deal with Prime.
“There’s actually a reason for all this, which I’ll get to in a second. But when the show started, it was Patrick Mahomes, IShowSpeed, and Logan Paul coming to the building together. He is the biggest star in that city as a babyface, and he’s coming out with heels. Some people were bringing up that this makes no sense because Patrick Mahomes was a total heel on the show, even though he’s a babyface. The reason behind it was because WWE did not book this segment. It was a sponsored segment, that’s why Patrick Mahomes was there because Patrick Mahomes is part of the Prime energy drink that Logan Paul is also a part of.“
“So they basically sponsored the segment and they wanted Logan Paul and Patrick Mahomes to work together in an angle. Everyone’s going, ‘Why would Patrick Mahomes be booked as a heel in Kansas City? WWE is so incredibly stupid.’ But in fact, it was not WWE that was stupid. It was something that the sponsors basically put together.”
While Patrick Mahomes’ appearance on the episode was more than just a guest appearance, this might not be seen every now and then in WWE. Ringside News will keep you updated with the latest news related to WWE.
