Kevin Owens has had a remarkable career in WWE, stepping into the ring with some of the biggest names in the business. His matches with legends like Rey Mysterio, John Cena, Randy Orton, The Undertaker, AJ Styles, Bryan Danielson, and Stone Cold Steve Austin highlight his status as one of the top competitors in professional wrestling. However, despite these high-profile bouts, there are still iconic figures who have eluded Owens, leaving fans to wonder about potential dream matches that could happen in the future.
In a recent interview with WrestleSphere, Kevin Owens, the former Universal Champion, discussed the ECW legends he would have loved to wrestle during his career. He began by expressing his appreciation for the ECW originals he had the opportunity to work with during his days on the independent scene.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have had matches with a lot of those guys,” Owens explained. He mentioned his mentor Steve Corino, who was a favorite of his growing up, along with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. Owens also recalled his encounters with Rhyno, Masato Tanaka, and Tommy Dreamer, highlighting the influence these ECW legends had on him.
“I got to be in the ring with Steve Corino, who became my mentor. He was my absolute favorite growing up alongside Stone Cold and Shawn Michaels. And then Rhyno, I got to be in the ring with him too, and I loved Rhyno. I’ve got to be in the ring with Masato Tanaka, with Tommy Dreamer. It was great.”
Despite his extensive experience, there’s still one ECW great that Owens hasn’t had the chance to face, and that’s Rob Van Dam. The Prizefighter made it clear that he feels it’s not too late to make the match happen.
“Rob Van Dam is probably one guy from ECW that I didn’t get to wrestle that I would have loved to wrestle. But maybe it’s not too late. Who knows?”
For the record, RVD doubts he will ever return to WWE as a competitor after Triple H’s takeover. Nevertheless, only it will tell if fans will get to see the Whole F’n Show and The Prizefighter duke it out inside the squared circle.
