CM Punk’s return at the Survivor Series Premium Live Event sent shockwaves across the world of professional wrestling thanks to its sheer electricity, but not everyone had a good relationship with him. With that said, Sami Zayn has revealed his status with Punk.

CM Punk and Kevin Owens share a history that dates back to before Punk’s time in WWE, but their relationship has not always been the most amicable. Owens has previously stated that he and Punk are “not each other’s people.”

Zayn, speaking with Gorilla Position, mentioned that when Punk returned, he wanted to clear the air and ensure there were no lingering tensions between them. Zayn described his approach to the situation as well.

“I’ve known him for a very long time. There’s been some ups, there’s been some downs. He showed up and I was like, ‘I just don’t want this to be weird. Say whatever you need to say.’ He said his peace, I said my peace. Clean slate. That’s it. You just can’t walk around harboring resentment. I just don’t want him to walk by and be like a black cloud. I work here, and vice versa. I don’t want him to see me and [groans]. Whatever happened, cards on the table, clean slate. Good? Good. Okay. That’s just it. That’s how I approach, not just him, but life.”

Zayn further emphasized that his approach extends beyond just CM Punk, as he finds it exhausting to hate people. Zayn shared that he’s found carrying resentment only hurts the person harboring it.

”I’ve found in my experience that it’s kind of exhausting to hate people. The only person who is mad is you. They’re just walking around, and you’re under a cloud of negativity. I just don’t want that cloud. Has there been some weird stuff between us in the past? Sure, I think 90% of people you ask about Punk would say the same. As far as I’m concerned, we have to work together, you’re here, you’ve been through a lot in your life, let’s just clean slate and start over. That’s it.”

As the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, Sami Zayn is set to remain a fixture on WWE Raw. This role signifies Zayn’s prominence within the Raw brand, where he will continue to compete and defend his championship title. Meanwhile, CM Punk is eligible for the 2024 WWE Draft, so we’ll have to see what will become of him.
