Powerhouse Hobbs went head-to-head with Jon Moxley in a highly anticipated showdown on the April 24, 2024 of AEW Dynamite for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. In what marked Moxley’s inaugural title defense, the match culminated in his triumph, securing the victory amidst a flurry of electrifying moments.

However, following the match, reports surfaced indicating that Powerhouse Hobbs sustained an injury during the championship bout.

During a segment on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez shed light on the situation, expressing concern for Hobbs’s well-being. Alvarez noted that the knee injury Hobbs suffered appeared to be legitimate, emphasizing that it was not part of a scripted storyline.

Alvarez recounted the sequence of events, detailing how Hobbs incurred the injury while executing a high cross maneuver, resulting in a collision with the turnbuckles. Despite his evident discomfort, Hobbs valiantly soldiered on, demonstrating remarkable resilience as he navigated through the remainder of the match. However, it became apparent that the injury hindered Hobbs’s mobility, ultimately curtailing the length of the planned encounter.

“I want to start by wishing the best to Hobbs. If you watched the show last night, that was not a worked knee injury. He went for a high cross or something and smashed into the turnbuckles and injured his knee.

“He could barely walk and he hopped his way back into the ring, hopped into like two spots and got choked out. There was more they were going to do…The Hobbs match was obviously supposed to go longer than it did.

Speculation swirled regarding the severity of Hobbs’s injury, with Alvarez expressing hope that it would not prove to be serious. The extent of the injury remained uncertain at the time, pending further evaluation.

“We don’t know the extent of his knee injury yet except that it is real. Hopefully, it is not bad.”

The AEW Dynamite bout, held at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, unfolded over the course of approximately ten minutes, albeit truncated due to Hobbs’s injury.

In the aftermath of the match, Konosuke Takeshita emerged, issuing a bold challenge to Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Takeshita’s proclamation ignited anticipation among fans, who eagerly await the potential clash between the two formidable competitors.

Meanwhile, NJPW luminary Yota Tsuji weighed in on the ongoing discourse surrounding AEW’s treatment of the IWGP World Heavyweight Title, expressing skepticism regarding the promotion’s reverence for the prestigious championship.

As Powerhouse Hobbs embarks on his journey to recovery, Ringside News extends its heartfelt wishes for his swift and complete healing.
