Chris Jericho’s contributions as a pro wrestler need no introduction. He is not limited to the wrestling ring, as Jericho has starred in numerous film projects in the past and he is now starring in yet another film.
According to Variety, “Dark Match,” a unique wrestling action-horror movie set in the 1980s, is scheduled for release later this year, with an upcoming festival premiere to be announced. Blue Finch Films, a U.K.-based sales and distribution company, has acquired the worldwide rights for the film, excluding Canada, and will commence sales at the Cannes Film Market.
The film is led by Chris Jericho, is written and directed by Lowell Dean. It is produced by Dept. 9 Studios’ John K. MacDonald, Don Depoe, Michael Feehan, Michael Peterson, and Rhonda Baker.
The storyline revolves around a small-time wrestling company that accepts a lucrative gig in a remote town, only to discover that the community is controlled by a mysterious cult leader with sinister plans for their match. As the lights go down, Miss Behave and her wrestling colleagues find themselves battling for their lives in a horrifying turn of events. The ensemble cast includes Steven Ogg, known for his role in “The Walking Dead,” and Ayisha Issa from the Canadian medical drama “Transplant.”
Combining elements of action, horror, and wrestling, “Dark Match” promises an intriguing mix of genres, with Jericho leading a talented cast through a tense and thrilling narrative. The film’s setting in the 1980s adds a nostalgic backdrop, with classic wrestling tropes merging with supernatural and cult themes to create a distinctive viewing experience. Fans of wrestling, horror, and retro-themed cinema can look forward to this new release later this year.
