The Modern Day Maharaja Jinder Mahal began 2024 on a high note that saw him in a memorable segment with The Rock, followed by his contention for the World Heavyweight Championship and subsequent feud with AEW President Tony Khan on social media.
The banter began over Khan questioning Mahal getting a title shot against then-champion Seth Rollins, who in turn fired back at Tony Khan for his double standards for giving AEW star HOOK an impromptu title shot against Samoa Joe.
The war between the two individuals garnered major attention from both companies. Now, in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE champion opened up about the situation. Jinder Mahal stated that he was informed by Drew McIntyre about the entire charade shaping up on social media and credited Tony Khan for turning major eyeballs toward his aforementioned match against Seth Rollins.
“Drew had texted me. I got a bunch of texts in a row – I was like, ‘What? I’ve gotta see this’. And then I open up Twitter and that’s what I saw. Thank you Tony! You made that match with Seth more interesting. People actually thought I was gonna win it just to spite Tony (laughs). I was surprised, everybody stuck up for me, that’s never happened before.”
Jinder Mahal once again made headlines after he unexpectedly announced that he was quitting WWE a few days ago, with his official release being confirmed following that. With Mahal looking forward to new bastions, we will have to wait and see what’s next for the Modern-Day Maharaja after his WWE release.
