Damian Priest’s cash-in of his Money in the Bank contract after a prolonged delay was met with skepticism from some wrestling fans. However, his successful cash-in after WrestleMania, which earned him the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, proved his critics wrong. This victory solidified Priest’s position at the top of WWE’s roster and demonstrated his strategic approach to the coveted contract.
Last year, Damian Priest reached a major milestone by winning the Money in the Bank briefcase, positioning himself for a potential championship reign. This opportunity came to fruition at WrestleMania 40 on Sunday when Priest capitalized on Drew McIntyre’s victory over Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Title. With a decisive cash-in, Priest secured the championship, marking significant moment in his career.
In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Damian Priest discussed the close relationship between wrestling and heavy metal music, emphasizing how the fanbases of both share similar characteristics. Priest noted that both wrestling shows and metal concerts feature a sea of black t-shirts, highlighting the unique connection between the two.
Priest explained how these fanbases are not only passionate but also share a sense of being “not the norm.” The passion for these industries, he said, is intense, with fans immersed in the experience unlike any other.
“Ah, absolutely. I feel like they go hand-in-hand. I mean, you see a wrestling show, you see a sea of black t-shirts, you go to a metal show, you see a sea of black t-shirts, you know? It’s one of those things that’s the same kind of character or personality. It’s something that, to your point, wrestling and metal aren’t normal. It’s not the norm. Our fanbases are so passionate. I’m a fan of sports and movies and all types of stuff, but when it comes to both those industries, the passion for a fan to be so immersed in it, I think is a special feeling, and you can’t compare it to anything else”
When asked which band he’d like to play him to the ring at WrestleMania, “The Showcase of the Immortals,” Priest didn’t hesitate to name Metallica. The idea of having the iconic heavy metal band play him to the ring was an exciting and ambitious vision, with Priest suggesting he might need to talk to WWE management to make it happen.
“The mighty Metallica! You know what I mean? Can you imagine Metallica playing me to the ring? It’d be wild! Yeah. Hey, maybe I’ve gotta talk to the boss man and be like, ‘Hey? What’s up with Metallica?’ That’d be a whole different dream scenario. I don’t even know if I’m ready for that.”
Damian Priest also signed new contract with WWE. We will have to wait and see how Damian Priest will be booked as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the coming weeks, as he is set for a huge title match at WWE Backlash on May 4th. Only time will tell if he gets a special entrance with Metallica in the future.
