Trish Stratus Discloses Scrapped WrestleMania Plans

WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus engaged in an unexpected and extended program against Becky Lynch earlier last year, surprising fans. However, Trish Stratus has now revealed a major scrapped plan for WrestleMania last year.

Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus’ feud took over WWE television for several months and it ended at WWE Payback, where they faced off against each other in steel cage match. Stratus would lose the match, which ended up being the last match of her run with the company so far.

Before that, Trish Stratus was also part of a 6-woman tag team match alongside Lita and Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 39. During an interview with Inside The Ropes, Trish Stratus revealed that Becky Lynch called her up for a potential program. Stratus revealed that there were plans for them to square off against each other at WrestleMania 39, but they were ultimately scrapped due to time restrictions.

“I felt like I’d done the babyface comeback,” Stratus said. “They’re fine, but I don’t want to wear out my welcome. I said, if I go back, I’d like to surprise people and do it a little differently. I thought as a performer, I would like to challenge myself and do a heel run because I hadn’t touched that for so many years. It was 18 years since I did a heel promo.

So Becky called me and said, ‘Do you want to come back and do a match with me at WrestleMania?’ But we needed me to come back and turn first. We were spitballing how I could turn heel and then we brought in Lita. We thought it’d be cool to see me turning on Lita. You’re more invested in me turning on my friend of 20 years than me and Becky, who had no television history at that point. I was supposed to come in for a little bit after WrestleMania, do a little something. And then suddenly I was in a storyline every single week for the next six months. So we were not expecting that but that’s what happened.”

Trish Stratus also previously expressed her desire to win an 8th Women’s Title, so we will have to wait and see whether the WWE Hall of Famer will make her triumphant return to WWE television for one last run this year.
