At WrestleMania 40 on Saturday, the longstanding tensions between former LWO members Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar came to a head at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The explosive tag team match also featured Andrade and Dominik Mysterio, further heightening the intense rivalry. Additionally, Jason Kelce was aware of the plans at the last minute, adding a layer of unpredictability to the event.
As the match intensified, two imposing masked figures suddenly entered the ring, targeting Dominik Mysterio and leaving him incapacitated. This unexpected interference allowed Rey Mysterio to capitalize on the distraction and execute his signature moves, ultimately securing a decisive victory at The Show of Shows.
In a surprising twist, the masked figures revealed themselves to be Philadelphia Eagles players Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson. They joined the LWO in the ring to celebrate, much to the delight of the audience.
During an episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason Kelce spoke with his brother Travis Kelce about his involvement in WrestleMania 40. When Travis asked when Jason learned of his role in the event, Jason revealed that he and Lane Johnson were aware they would be participating with the masks, but they didn’t find out the full extent of their involvement until about two hours before the show. He explained that there was a backstage area where they figured out the details.
Travis compared the situation to their podcast production, where they often find out what’s going on just minutes before going live. Jason agreed, noting that they were aligned with Rey’s team, which didn’t require much explanation. From that point on, their focus was on successfully executing their part.
Jason: ”We knew we were going to be involved with the masks, but we didn’t really find out the full extent until like two hours before the show. There was a backstage area where you figure things out.”
Travis: ”So it’s like a New Heights production. You just find out five minutes before you go out there what’s going on.”
Jason: ”Pretty much, yeah.”
Travis: ”The whole time, I thought we were behind the eight ball, but it looks like we’re spot on with the best productions in the world.”
Jason: ”We knew we were on Rey’s team, which they didn’t have to tell us that. From there, it was operation get it done.”
The backstage reaction to Jason Kelce’s appearance at WrestleMania 40 Saturday was also revealed.
