WrestleMania 40 will go down in the history books as one of the most successful editions of WWE’s premier show, generating record-smashing business for the company and the city of Philadelphia that has prompted them to bid for future WrestleMania shows.
According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau is eager to bring the prestigious spectacle event back to the City of Brotherly Love. Larry Needle, executive director of the organization’s PHL Sports division, revealed that they plan to petition WWE to consider Philadelphia for another WrestleMania in the future.
While he acknowledged that it might be early to discuss the event’s return to Philadelphia, he stated that the bureau would initiate discussions with WWE in the not-too-distant future.
Furthermore, Larry Needle emphasized the importance of WrestleMania as a highly sought-after event, with many cities vying for the opportunity to host such a significant show spanning for 40 years. Despite the competition, Needle expressed Philadelphia’s enthusiasm for the possibility of hosting The Show of Shows again.
“This is such a highly-coveted event that we know there’s a long line of cities clamoring to host, and that’s just the reality of an event of this magnitude. But needless to say, we would be thrilled to have WrestleMania back, and at the right time we will engage in those conversations with the WWE.”
Philadelphia has set a high standard for future host cities, as WrestleMania 40 set records in various aspects, including event attendance, ticket sales, merchandise sales, and viewership on social media and television. We will have to wait and see if Philly indeed gets another opportunity to host The Showcase of the Immortals in the future.
