The intense rivalry between Rey Mysterio and his estranged son, Dominik Mysterio has been prevalent for almost two years after he joined the notorious Judgment Day faction. That has led to some heated moments, big stage matches and practically seeing the Mysterio family fall apart.

However, all those events would have been altered, had Rey Mysterio lost an important match against one of his best friends, Eddie Guerrero during their iconic rivalry in 2005 that also involved a young Dominik Mysterio.

The feud began with Eddie revealing that he was Dominik’s biological son, not Rey Mysterio and culminated in a high-stakes ladder match with custody of Dom Dom hanging in the balance. Ultimately it was Rey Mysterio who prevailed and Dominik returned to the Mysterio household.

During a recent interview with BWGS Pod, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked about the match and if he regretted winning the match, considering how Dominik turned out and betrayed his family in favor of Judgment Day. Rey admitted to that fact and stated that he should have just let Eddie Guerrero keep him instead of even wrestling him for a son like Dominik Mysterio.

“That’s a very good question that I have never been asked and now that I think about it… I wouldn’t have even had that match. I would have told Eddie, keep him. Keep him. I don’t want to risk my body. Because that was brutal. The way Domink turned out after that. But I also asked myself, what would have happened if Eddie would still be here? Like that, this whole story that has been created. It must be I think he watches a lot of his stuff and somehow there’s some sort of internal connection and I wouldn’t doubt it that Eddie’s giving him pointers from the heavens.”

Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio once again came face-to-face for a match, in a tag team showdown at WrestleMania 40, teaming with Andrade El Idolo and Santos Escobar respectively with Rey and Andrade prevailing courtesy of the assistance of some NFL players. We will have to wait and see what unfolds next in the intense father-son rivalry moving forward.
