Drew McIntyre reached the pinnacle of his career at WrestleMania 40, defeating Seth “Freakin” Rollins to claim the World Heavyweight Championship in front of a raucous crowd. However, his reign was short-lived, marred by his own actions.
Following his victory, McIntyre’s celebration took a sour turn when he taunted guest commentator CM Punk at the announcer’s desk. This led to a retaliatory attack from Punk, creating an opening for Money in the Bank winner Damian Priest to cash in his briefcase and dethrone McIntyre.
In the aftermath, McIntyre reflected on the turn of events, expressing his disdain for Punk’s interference while his brother John Galloway expressed his own frustration on social media. He posted a photo of himself outside the Lincoln Financial Field in Philidelphia with a caption indicating his decision to leave the event early to console his brother.
“Not staying after that bulls**t, I’m going to be there for my brother right now. Thank you for the nice messages but this is bollocks. Goodnight Philadelphia 🖕 #WrestleMania.”
However, Galloway later shared a more heartfelt message via his X in response to McIntyre’s title win, despite having his moment stolen by Damian Priest.
“No matter how the night ended this moment was everything. I thought of our mum and how proud she would have been to see her baby boy win at the grandest stage of them all. It never gets easier not having her with us 💔.”
On the other hand, the animosity between McIntyre and Punk escalated on the following night’s RAW, where The Best in the World’s distraction cost Drew a shot at becoming the No.1 contender in a Fatal-4 Way match, with Jey Uso capitalizing on the opportunity.
Despite the events that happened at WrestleMania 40, Drew McIntyre’s family looks to be extremely proud of him and firmly believes in his ability to recapture the gold once again.
