CM Punk’s tenure with AEW came to an unexpected conclusion when he was released from the company. This release followed the Brawl Out 2022 incident, a heated confrontation that took place backstage between CM Punk, Kenny Omega, and other AEW personnel. Recently, Kenny Omega has opened up about his relationship with CM Punk following the incident.
In 2021, CM Punk made a significant impact by joining AEW, quickly becoming a central figure in the promotion. His crowning achievement came at Double or Nothing 2022 when he secured the AEW World Championship. However, his reign was plagued by injuries, including a torn triceps and a suspension following the controversial Brawl Out incident at AEW All Out 2022.
While speaking on his Twitch stream, Kenny Omega was asked about his relationship with CM Punk. Omega noted that he never had any issues with Punk and made it clear there is no beef between the two.
”Status with Punk right now? It’s mutual respect, we reached out to each other. It’s not like hey we’re good now, we were never bad. Honestly, if it weren’t for a complete other factor, we would have been able to have the talk on the night of Brawl Out. There’s no issue between him and I as far as I know, I don’t think there is at all.”
The AEW All In footage on AEW Dynamite this week proved that CM Punk was the aggressor. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see whether Punk and the rest of The Elite will bury the hatchet, as it seems unlikely now.
