The WWE Universe witnessed the return of The Rock inside the squared circle this year at WrestleMania 40 after not wrestling in a full-fledged match for over a decade and not losing a step in his recent performance.
The Final Boss delivered an exceptional in-ring display, teaming alongside his cousin Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on WrestleMania 40 Saturday with The Rock picking up the pinfall after a thunderous People’s Elbow on The American Nightmare.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has no date planned for The Rock’s next match, but has spoken about the timeline being around WrestleMania 41 at the moment.
Moreover, while he may work a match later in 2024, the belief is that The Rock would prefer to work a high-stakes title match against the new Undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes in the main event of next year’s WrestleMania 41.
“From what we’re told, this is very much a long-term thing. There is no planned date for Rock to return for a match, but it’s been talked about next year’s Mania. Originally he wanted to come back and work with Reigns, but obviously based on everything that went down, the singles title match with Rhodes is the bigger match right now. As things stand right now, he may work a match later this year but that is not a lock. He would prefer to work with Rhodes in the main event of next year’s Mania, and as we’ve seen, he is generally going to get what he wants. That would seem to lock Rhodes in for at least a one-year title reign. We are told is that isn’t a lock, but Johnson would prefer it.”
The Great One announced his hiatus on the RAW after WrestleMania 40 during an intense confrontation with Cody Rhodes. With the events that transpired that night, all signs are pointing towards a massive showdown between The Rock and Cody Rhodes when The Final Boss makes his return.
