Dustin Rhodes, a seasoned veteran in professional wrestling with decades of experience, has been an active member of the AEW roster. While many feel he will retire soon, it appears Rhodes isn’t ready to retire just yet.
The April 10th episode of AEW Dynamite began with Samoa Joe’s entrance for the AEW World Championship match. However, as he made his way to the ring, Swerve Strickland launched a brutal assault on his AEW Dynasty adversary. This intensified anticipation among fans for their impending clash at Dynasty.
Despite the initial plan, the match between Samoa Joe and Dustin Rhodes was rescheduled to the main event of the evening. Utilizing Joe’s battered body, the veteran Rhodes gained an early advantage over the champion. Nevertheless, a distraction for the referee proved to be the opening Samoa Joe needed to secure victory over Rhodes.
While speaking in a new interview with Sports Illustrated, Dustin Rhodes admitted that he thought about retirement but made it clear that he is not ready to retire from in-ring competition yet.
“I’ve thought about retirement, but I’m just not ready. My mind, my heart, and my soul are too much in love with this. So I’ll go until the wheels fall off. My love for wrestling, that drives me. It makes me hungrier. I am putting all of my passion and grit into everything I do.”
We will have to wait and see when Dustin Rhodes will end up retiring from good from in-ring competition, as it might still be a couple of years before that ends up happening.
