WWE WrestleMania 40 took place over two nights in Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and it was truly a two-night extravaganza from start to finish. Interestingly enough, WWE is now doing away with exaggerated attendance numbers starting from this year’s WrestleMania.
WrestleMania 40 Saturday featured a ton of action, including Rhea Ripley retaining her title, Sami Zayn dethroning Gunther as the Intercontinental Champion and of course, The Rock and Roman Reigns defeating Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
On the other hand, WrestleMania 40 Sunday was headlined by Cody Rhodes squaring off against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Universal Championship, where he finally beat Reigns and finished the story.
WWE had mentioned that the total attendance across both nights of WrestleMania 40 was 145,298. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that unlike prior years where WWE would exaggerate the numbers by 10k to 20k, this time around they increased the attendance by just 3,000, which made it clear they are doing away with exaggerated attendance numbers.
“The WrestleMania numbers, normally it’s like 10 thousand more and sometimes 20 thousand more than what the real number is but this year it was only like 3,000 more. It is a new era and one of the new era things is that they’re not really exaggerating attendance to the level that they used to.”
WrestleMania 40 marked the true end of the Vince McMahon era as we are now in Triple H’s world and things are simply going to get better. We will have to wait and see what other changes will be seen within the coming months.
