The tensions and animosity brewing between former LWO members, Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar reached Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on tonight’s WrestleMania 40 Saturday in an explosive tag team match with Andrade and Dominik Mysterio on their respective sides.
After months of back-and-forth encounters and following Santos Escobar’s inclusion of Rey’s estranged son on his side, the WWE Hall of Famer challenged the duo to a match with NXT star Dragon Lee being his ally for the match. However, the SmackDown before Mania saw Lee being attacked backstage.
Following the chain of events that transpired, Andrade El Idolo switched sides and aligned with Rey Mysterio to be his partner against Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar at WrestleMania 40.
The highly intense bout was an excellent display of classic tag team wrestling with the partnership of top Mexican star, Andrade and Rey Mysterio being a major highlight. Moreover, both teams went at each other trying to secure the win on the Grandest Stage of them all.
Towards the end, two huge masked men attacked Dominik Mysterio and sent him back to the ring giving Rey Mysterio the opening to connect the 619 followed by a senton to pick up the huge win at The Show of Shows. Both masked behemoths stepped inside the ring to celebrate with the LWO and were revealed to be Philadelphia Eagles’ players, Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson.
