While The Rock is now a member of the Bloodline, he wasn’t supposed to be a part of it when he returned in January. Rather, the Great One was planned to face Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40 while Cody Rhodes battled Seth Rollins. However, with fans rallying behind the American Nightmare’s opportunity to face Reigns, last minute changes were seen.
During the WrestleMania XL Press Conference, The Rock officially turned heel and eventually joined the Bloodline. This has made him one of the biggest bad guys of all-time and is set to make his in-ring return at WrestleMania 40.
Addressing the change of plans ahead of the build to WrestleMania, The Rock recently revealed, on the Will Cain Show, that he pitched the idea to turn heel while fans wanted Rhodes to face Reigns. The Final Boss revealed that he called Nick Khan and the latter loved the idea.
“Back in January, I called Nick Khan, our friend. And I said, I have an idea. How about this? Why don’t we take care of the people. Give them this story of Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. And Nick said, great. And I said, however, it’s a little bit of a twist. He said, what’s that? I said, what if I became the greatest bad guy of all time?”
The Rock’s bad guy gimmick has now brought him to WrestleMania 40 as one of the most hated stars on the roster. He teams up with Roman Reigns to face Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Night One.
