The wrestling industry has been shaken by serious allegations against Vince McMahon, a figure who looms large in the world of sports entertainment. Amidst the ongoing debate and controversy surrounding McMahon, including concerning allegations of trafficking, it appears that Nick Khan has revealed that the allegations could have ruined WWE’s deal with Netflix.

On January 25th, Janel Grant, a former WWE staff member, initiated legal proceedings against WWE, John Laurinaitis, and Vince McMahon, alleging incidents of sexual assault, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking dating back to March 2019. These allegations have cast a dark shadow over McMahon’s reputation and sparked widespread condemnation within the industry.

We had reported that WWE and Netflix confirmed their huge deal to move Monday Night RAW to the streaming service, which will begin in January 2025. The reported deal, valued at over $5 billion for a duration of ten years, shocked fans all over the world and the deal was announced on January 23rd.

Vince McMahon resigned from his position as TKO Executive Chairman on January 26 following Slim Jim’s decision to pause its sponsorship ahead of WWE Royal Rumble.

Appearing on The Town with Matthew Belloni, WWE President Nick Khan was asked if the allegations would have affected the Netflix deal.

“I don’t know about ‘kill’ but it certainly wouldn’t have helped the deal (Khan said about Vince McMahon allegations). So those allegations are obviously horrific and serious and we take them and interpret them the same way I think every other reasonable person or organization would take them and you saw the quick resignation… No (Netflix did not tell us to make McMahon resign). Not in any way, shape or form… No (Vince is not involved in any way). Zero. As a stockholder as I’m a stockholder (is the only way he’s involved). Zero, zero, zero.”

“By the way, he chose to resign. So, there was no litigation. As you said, there was no threat in litigation.”

We will have to wait and see how WWE will change as a whole once their deal with Netflix begins at the start of 2025, as there is a lot of hype and excitement behind it.
