The addition of Mercedes Mone to AEW has sparked a notable shift in the promotion’s landscape. With her distinguished presence in the history of the Jacksonville-based promotion, her signing has generated significant excitement and anticipation. She has also revealed that she didn’t initially accept Tony Khan’s offer to join AEW.
Since her debut in AEW earlier this month, Mercedes Mone has had confrontations with Julia Hart and Skye Blue and has automatically been booked as a very big deal in the company.
While speaking to 98.5 Stick To Wrestling, Mercedes Mone expressed her thoughts on joining AEW, stating that discussions with Tony Khan had been ongoing for some time. She emphasized that the alignment felt perfect in 2024, with many exciting developments in progress.
Initially, when Khan reached out, Mercedes took her time to consider, wanting to observe and assess the women’s division. As she continued to watch, her aspirations grew, and she felt her dreams becoming more significant and promising. It became clear to her that she wanted AEW to be her home.
“We’ve (Tony Khan) been talking for quite some time now and I just think the alignment just felt so right to now in 2024 and yeah, it’s just been so many beautiful things in the works. When he called me the first time, I’m like, ‘I’ll think about it TK. We gotta build this relationship. Let me keep on watching, let me keep on seeing this women’s division’ & I kept on watching the women’s division and my dreams just became so much bigger and brighter and I knew instantly, I wanted AEW to be my home.”
Mercedes Mone has already responded to the claim of being the highest paid female wrestler. We’ll have to wait and see if Mercedes Mone’s presence ignites a revolution in women’s wrestling, potentially leading to increased pay for everyone involved.
