CM Punk has always been known to send shockwaves with his appearances on WWE’s televised programming and the sight of his return to Monday Night RAW in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois this week was no different.

The segment saw The Best in the World resurfacing on live television since addressing his unfortunate triceps injury suffered back in January that ruled him out of WrestleMania 40 at the hands of the menacing Drew McIntyre.

Moreover, Punk was confronted by The Scottish Warrior himself on RAW this week, engaging in a heated verbal back-and-forth with the man who has taken every opportunity in recent months to mock The Second City Saint.

During their verbal altercation, McIntyre mentioned being ‘The Chosen One’ which led to Punk challenging him to name the person who christened him with that moniker, which was none other than the now disgraced former WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon. After allegations of sexual misconduct and sex trafficking arose against him, the new WWE regime led by TKO Group Holdings has quietly distanced itself from McMahon.

According to a new report by PWInsider.com, Punk’s comments sent an initial hush backstage on RAW, but there was no heat towards the former WWE champion as the initial shock wore off about CM Punk almost getting Drew to mention McMahon’s name on live television.

“Multiple sources indicate Punk wasn’t in trouble for veering into territory that related to the now-disgraced former WWE leader, Vince McMahon. Instead, because of how he steered away from it adeptly after a few seconds while still getting the impact he was looking for as a ‘controversial comment,’ it was seen as a slick comment that enhanced the tone they were going for.”

CM Punk has been slated for an appearance at WrestleMania 40 after he was revealed to be the special guest commentator for the huge title match between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre on Night 2 of the show. With The Best in the World set to appear at The Show of Shows after over a decade, it would be interesting to see his involvement in the match pitting two of his heated rivals.
