WWE Hall of Famer ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is one of the most iconic names in the history of professional wrestling. He was part of many memorable storylines during his tenure in WWE but not all of them quite hit the mark. Austin has now admitted that one particular storyline is the worst of his career.
During the celebrated Attitude Era of wrestling, Stone Cold Steve Austin emerged as one of, if not the biggest star. He held the WWF Championship multiple times and achieved victory at WrestleMania on three distinct occasions.
In 1999, Steve Austin’s extensive career and numerous injuries began to take their toll, prompting him to take time off from the promotion to recuperate. During this period, one of the most notorious storylines unfolded: Austin was deliberately run down by a mystery assailant at Survivor Series 1999, adding intrigue and drama to his absence from the wrestling scene.
During a recent episode of his Stone Cold Podcast, Steve Austin reminisced about the angle involving his character being struck by a car. The WWE Hall of Famer expressed his disdain for the storyline, calling it the worst angle he was ever a part of in his career.
“Me being clipped by a god dang car! S**t, that was the worst storyline I was ever involved in. But we had to come up with a way so that we could get my a** out of the way.”
Following a one-off appearance at Backlash 2000, Steve Austin re-entered the wrestling scene later that year, intent on uncovering the identity of his assailant. The revelation came that Rikishi was responsible for running down Austin, falsely attributing his actions to “doing it for The Rock.”
This revelation sparked a short-lived, one-sided feud where Austin dominated Rikishi in pay-per-view matches, but nothing much came of it in the end. Nevertheless, Austin will never be a fan of this particular storyline and fans can understand why now.
