AEW Dynamite Results (3/27/2024):

The show opens up with Excalibur, Taz and Tony Schiavone welcoming us. “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay and Katsuyori Shibata then makes their way down to the ring for the first match of the night.

Singles Match: “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay vs. Katsuyori Shibata

The match starts off with Shibata and Ospreay feeling each other out. Shibata then delivers some strikes on Ospreay. Ospreay then hits Shibata with a kick and dives on top of him at ringside. Shibata then responds with a kick. Both men then trade shots and Shibata hits a suplex on Ospreay on the floor. Shibata then hits Ospreay with another kick and he grounds Ospreay and targets his leg. Ospreay then tries to get back in the match, but gets suplexed. Shibata then continues to work on Ospreay’s leg and he maintains the advantage in the match.

Ospreay then delivers some strikes on Ospreay and both men go back and forth. Shibata then hits Ospreay with a kick to his face. Ospreay then hits a springboard off the barricade and lands on Shibata. Both men then trade forearms and strikes. Shibata then delivers some chops on Ospreay. Shibata then puts Ospreay in an abdominal stretch and both men trade suplexes. Ospreay then counters a kick and hits Shibata with some forearms.

Both men then continue battling and Ospreay hits Shibata with a kick. Shibata then puts Ospreay in a sleeper, but Ospreay gets back in the match and hits the Os-cutter on Shibata. Shibata then rallies and both men trade blows. Ospreay then hits Shibata with a strike and a Tiger Driver. Ospreay then hits his Hidden Blade finisher on Shibata for the win.

After the match, Ospreay and Shibata show respect for each other as they shake hands and embrace.

We then get a video package highlighting the career of “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson from his time in ROH and NJPW. Excalibur then talked about Danielson’s career ending for three years and returning to pro wrestling in AEW. Danielson then said the final year of his career will be the greatest.

We then head to the back, where Renee Paquette is interviewing The Young Bucks. Matthew and Nicholas Jackson are asked about their match tonight. Matthew starts off by highlights their goals such as retiring Sting and restructuring The Elite. Matthew then says they asked Kazuchika Okada to watch their match. He then makes it clear that their top goal is to win the AEW World Tag Team Titles and that journey begins tonight.

We then see “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada pull up in a Ferrari and enter the building.

We then get the entrances of the next match, which is an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match.

AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match: The Elite’s The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen)

The match starts off with Matthew Jackson and Isiah Kassidy. The Young Bucks briefly take control of the match, but Private Party comes back by hitting stereo superkicks on Matthew and Nicholas. Private Party then dive onto the Young Bucks at ringside. Matthew then sends Quen over the barricade and Kassidy hits the Silly String at ringside. Quen and Nicholas then battle on the barricade and Nicholas hits a Falcon Arrow on Quen on the floor. Kazuchika Okada is then shown watching the match backstage.

The Young Bucks then double team Quen and maintain the advantage in the match. Quen then tries to get back in the match as he hits Matthew with a side effect. Kassidy then tags in and clears house with a flurry of offense. Kassidy then hits Matthew with a kick followed by a springboard crossbody. The Young Bucks then gain the upper hand once again and Matthew hits a suplex on Quen on the apron. Private Party then hits Nicholas with the Gin and Juice. The Young Bucks then hit More Bang For Your Buck. Nicholas then goes to get the ring bell, but the referee stops him from using it. Matthew then hits a low blow and Nicholas breaks up a pin attempt. The Young Bucks then evade a 630 splash from Quen and hit the EVP Trigger for the win.

A video package on Don Callis Family’s Konosuke Takeshita is then shown ahead of tonight’s main event.

Mercedes Moné is then shown arriving to the arena as she will be on commentary up next for the TBS Championship #1 Contender’s 4-Way Match.

We then get a pre-taped message from an injured Darby Allin and pro skater Tony Hawk about The Skate Park Project, a charity Allin was raising money for with his now-canceled climb to Mount Everest. Hawk then does some skateboarding tricks, including a hand-plant on Darby’s broken foot.

We then head to the back, where Renee Paquette is interviewing “Lionheart” Chris Jericho and FTW Champion HOOK. Chris Jericho tells HOOK that he is better than he expected. Jericho then says he has never been in the ring with anyone like HOOK and that he will give him any advice he wants. HOOK then says he knows who Jericho is. Jericho then says he knows who HOOK can be. Both men then fist bump.

We then get the entrances of the next match, which is the TBS Championship #1 Contender’s 4-Way Match.

TBS Championship #1 Contender’s 4-Way Match For AEW Dynasty: Kris Statlander vs. Skye Blue vs. Anna Jay vs. Willow Nightingale

The match starts off with Jay targeting Willow. Jay gains the upper hand in the match, but Willow tries to come back. Willow then hits a crossbody and Blue gains the upper hand by hitting a DDT. Statlander then takes control and Blue hits Statlander with a shot to the face. Statlander then hits Blue with a Pounce. Willow then stares Mercedes down and she hits Jay with a slam at ringside.

Statlander then tries to come back in the match with a flurry of offense. All four women then continue to battle and Blue hits Willow with a kick. Willow then hits Jay with a senton. Blue then hits a Code Blue on Willow and gets a two count as Statlander breaks up the pin. Statlander then hits Blue with a back breaker. Willow then hits a missile dropkick and Statlander and Willow square off. Nightingale then knocks Statlander down as they clash with Blue. Willow then hits Blue with a Death Valley Driver on the apron. Jay then hits Statlander with a kick that sends her to the outside. Willow then hits Jay with a Doctor Bomb and gets the win.

After the match, TBS Champion Julia Hart attacks Willow Nightingale and poses with her title. Hart then stares Mercedes Moné down.

We then head to the back, where Renee Paquette is interviewing Dustin Rhodes. Paquette asks Dustin what is next for him. Rhodes says he has started the year off with a bang, but right now at 55 years old, he is as passionate as he has ever been. The Butcher then walks in and Rhodes acts like there is something off with The Butcher. Butcher says it is his mustache as it has its own musk. Butcher then asks if Rhodes remembers their Bunkhouse Match from a few years back because he has some receipts with his name on it. Butcher then challenges Rhodes to a match on Rampage. Rhodes then accepts and says he is a Natural Born Legend and is loved in Canada and refuses to be a stepping stone.

A video is then shown of AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm visiting the set of Turner Classic Movies. Host Ben Mankiewicz then congratulates Storm on being the AEW Women’s World Champion and redefining the art of pro wrestling. Storm then congratulates Mankiewicz on whatever he does and gets him to say Chin Up and Watch for The Shoe, but he refuses to say the Tits Out part of the tag line.

We then get a video package about Swerve Strickland, where he sends a message to Konosuke Takeshita ahead of their match later tonight as well as AEW World Champion Samoa Joe.

We then get the entrances of the next match, which is an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match.

AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match: Best Friends (“Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy and Trent Beretta) vs. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett)

The match starts off with Orange Cassidy taking the fight to Matt Taven and diving onto the Undisputed Kingdom at ringside as Best Friends take an early advantage. Bennett then hits a chop on Beretta and Taven and Bennett double team him. Beretta then hits a suplex on Taven and Taven responds with a kick to Beretta. Bennett then hits Beretta with a piledriver on the apron. Undisputed Kingdom then continues to control the action as they double team Beretta, but Beretta counters a moonsault.

Cassidy then tags in and he clears house with a flurry of offense. Taven then hits Cassidy with a knee strike. Taven and Bennett then hit the Proton Pack on Cassidy for a two count. Beretta and Cassidy then double team Bennett for a two count of their own. Beretta then hits Taven with a DDT and Cassidy hits one as well. Roderick Strong then distracts Cassidy and Cassidy dives onto him. Taven and Bennett then go for the stump piledriver, but Beretta reverses it into a roll-up and gets the three count.

After the match, The Young Bucks come to the stage and stare Cassidy and Beretta down.

We then head to the back, where Renee Paquette is interviewing Kyle O’Reilly. Paquette congratulates O’Reilly on his win over Bryan Keith on Collision a few weeks ago. O’Reilly says it felt good to pull that band-aid off after such a long time, but the AEW roster is stacked. Paquette then asks if he is rejoining the Undisputed Kingdom and he says no as he did it on his own against Bryan Keith and he will do it on his own again. O’Reilly then says on Collision he will once again prove he belongs.

We then get a video package showing TNT Champion “The Rated R Superstar” Adam Copeland’s emotions following his battle with Christian Cage. Copeland then announces the return of the Cope Open this Saturday on Collision.

We then get the entrances of the main event, which is a Singles Match.

Singles Match: Don Callis Family’s Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mogul Embassy’s Swerve Strickland

The match starts off with Strickland and Takeshita shaking hands and feel each other out. Takeshita then gains the upper hand as AEW World Champion Samoa Joe is shown watching backstage. Swerve then hits Takeshita with a kick. Swerve then hits Takeshita with a neckbreaker followed by a back breaker. Takeshita then hits Swerve with a brainbuster and he maintains the advantage in the match as she overpowers Swerve at ringside.

Takeshita then continues to ground Swerve and both men trade strikes. Swerve then sends Takeshita to the outside and hits him with a hurricanrana onto the floor. Swerve then hits Takeshita with a diving crossbody. Takeshita then hits Swerve with a stiff shot to the face. Takeshita then kicks Swerve and dives onto him at ringside. Swerve then rallies and hits Takeshita with a DDT. Takeshita then hits Swerve with a reverse hurricanrana and gets a two count following a Blue Thunder Bomb. Takeshita then hits Swerve with a knee strike. Swerve then hits Takeshita with a Flatliner. Swerve then hits the Swerve Stomp on Takeshita on the apron. Takeshita then hits a powerbomb on Swerve. Both men then go back and forth as Takeshita hits a knee strike on Swerve. Strickland then hits the House Call and Swerve Stomp on Takeshita for a near fall. Both men then trade stiff blows and Swerve hits a Swerve Stomp on Takeshita in mid-air. Swerve then hits Takeshita with the Big Pressure for the win.

After the match, AEW World Champion Samoa Joe is interviewed by Renee Paquette. Paquette asks Joe how he feels after Strickland’s win. Joe says it’s baffling that this is a man celebrating the biggest fate he is ever going to catch in his life. Joe then says when Strickland walks to the ring next week and signs on the dotted line, he will make Swerve realize just what he is asking for. Joe then says Strickland isn’t ready and Strickland is not that man. Strickland is then shown celebrating in the ring, making the title belt motion that he is the next champ as the show comes to a close.
