Becky Lynch’s journey in professional wrestling has been nothing short of remarkable, marked by triumphs and challenges alike. Despite reaching great heights, including becoming a double champion at WrestleMania 35, Lynch faced moments of uncertainty, particularly when she discovered she was pregnant.

In an announcement during a May 2020 episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, Lynch revealed her pregnancy, symbolically passing the torch to Asuka as she concluded her reign as Raw Women’s Champion. The joy of impending motherhood was tinged with concern about her future with WWE, as Lynch grappled with the daunting task of informing Vince McMahon.

In her memoir “The Man,” Lynch reflects on the apprehension she felt as she contemplated breaking the news to McMahon, fearing the possibility of being fired.

“‘How am I going to tell Vince?’ I turned to Colby [Seth Rollins] realizing that beyond our immediate family, the most powerful man in wrestling needed to be the first recipient of our news.”

As Lynch confided in Seth Rollins, her partner and fellow WWE superstar, about her concerns, they brainstormed potential solutions to salvage her career, considering non-competitive roles within WWE.

“‘I’ll tell him [Vince] I can still keep working. You know, maybe I can… I could make a documentary about this. Or I could maybe be a consultant on the creative team or something?’… I scrambled for ways to save my job.”

When Lynch finally reached McMahon, she nervously broached the topic of her pregnancy, only to be met with unexpected warmth and congratulations from the WWE chairman, dispelling her fears of termination.

“Congratulations! Oh my God Rebecca! That’s fantastic news. Wow! I’m so happy for you!”

Currently, Lynch is gearing up for a monumental showdown against Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 40, poised to reclaim her place at the top of the women’s division.

Reflecting on Lynch’s journey, her fear of potential repercussions from McMahon serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by women in the wrestling industry. However, McMahon’s response underscores the importance of empathy and support within the workplace, reaffirming Lynch’s status as a trailblazer both in and out of the ring.
