Ronda Rousey left WWE after her bout against Shayna Baszler at the SummerSlam last year. She then participated in various promotions before taking an extended hiatus, which eventually led to her retirement. The Former WWE superstar recently opened up about her frustrations and reasons for leaving the wrestling entertainment giant.
In an interview with Rick Ucchino, Rousey expressed her dissatisfaction with what she perceived as a culture of mediocrity within WWE during her second stint with the company. She recalled a conversation she had with Triple H, where she emphasized her inability to be associated with anything less than excellence.
“I had a long sit down with Triple H and I was like, ‘I can’t be associated with mediocrity.’ That’s what they seemed to be happy with at the time. I hope that is different now, but I can’t say… that I’ve ever experienced it any other way,”
During the discussion, Rousey also praised Triple H’s leadership and the positive changes he implemented within WWE, particularly in empowering women within the promotion. She expressed regret that her final run with the company wasn’t under Triple H’s leadership, preferring his approach over that of Vince McMahon.
“I’m so glad that it’s getting turned around. Triple H has been great towards the women in the company and really believing in us. He’s the whole reason that I was there, ‘cause he believed in me. I really wish that my last run was under Triple H running things and Vince being gone,”
Rousey’s recent statements labeling WWE as a “shit show” and her feeling constrained by their insistence on following a scripted narrative rather than allowing her to express herself authentically, surely casts a shadow over the promotion’s internal dynamics. With her tell-all autobiography “Our Fight,” set to release on April 4th, it remains to be seen what other revelations she makes. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more!
