CM Punk debut on AEW Rampage took the world by storm and broke multiple records. However, his tenure in the company took a drastic turn as the pro-wrestler was fired from AEW after his backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In London, one that allegedly involved Punk sucker punching Perry. Now, Johnny TV has shared his take on Punk’s controversial stint at AEW.
In a recent interview with For the Love of Wrestling, Johnny TV offered his thoughts on CM Punk’s tenure in AEW. Johnny TV, who traveled alongside Punk and Luke Gallows for two years, expressed concerns about Punk’s attitude. He suggested that he became consumed by his own hype.
“I have no problem with Punk We ended up riding together for two years –- me, him, and [Luke] Gallows. I just feel like he kind of lost it. I feel like he went too far in the direction of, ‘I want this for me. I’m the best.’ Believing his own hype, clearly like when he decided to be a UFC fighter, believed his own hype took over, like not thinking through. Aside from that, can’t say too much about him, other than we rode together, got along, he’s a divisive, polarizing figure. The people that don’t like him I’m friends with, and they have very solid points. I’ll leave it at that.“
In case you need a refresher back in 2021, CM Punk made waves in the wrestling world by joining AEW, soon becoming a key player in the promotion. His biggest success came at Double or Nothing 2022, where he won the AEW World Championship. However, his tenure was marred by injuries, including a torn triceps and a ban for the contentious Brawl Out incident at AEW All Out 2022.
When Punk’s stint with AEW came to a sudden end after the incident involving Jack Perry, he made a spectacular comeback to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, marking a new chapter in his esteemed career. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more!
