Former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho is known for his multifaceted career beyond wrestling, which includes music and podcasting. Jericho’s latest venture is the annual “Rock N’ Wrestling Rager” Cruise and with the success of hosting an episode of “AEW Dynamite” during the cruise in 2020, Jericho recently entertained the idea of taking it a step further.
During a live Q&A edition of “Talk is Jericho” from the 2024 cruise, Jericho shared that he’s considering the possibility of hosting an AEW pay-per-view event at sea. While reflecting on the previous Dynamite episode from the cruise, Jericho recalled the positive experience and the excitement it brought to both fans and performers.
“I think it would be such a great idea,” Jericho said. “I really loved doing Dynamite from the cruise… It was an amazing experience to do it; we taped it, which is so funny because, at the time, Tony [Khan] was really against taping the show. Then eight months later, every show is taped because of the pandemic.”
Jericho’s idea for staging wrestling events in unusual locations stems from his previous experiences, particularly his tenure with WCW. He thought that it was reintroduced when “Dynamite” took place on the boat. He also drew comparisons between the Dynamite episode on the ship and WCW’s Nitro episodes, which take place in exotic locations like as Club La Vela in Panama City, Florida.
“It reminded me of when we used to do Nitro from Club La Vela in Panama City every year. You knew you were getting to see something different from the norm.”
It should be noted, not only did WCW hold Nitro episodes in Panama City, but the inaugural edition was held in the Mall of America in 1995. Coincidentally, the Mall of America is also willing to hold AEW events. The possibility of hosting an AEW PPV on the Jericho Cruise adds another dimension to the promotion’s innovative approach to live events. It remains to be seen what the promotion does next!
