At Worlds End, MJF triumphantly retained his AEW World Title in a match eagerly awaited by fans, sparking anticipation for the result. Yet, while rumors swirl about his contract possibly ending after the event, there’s been no official word on his future with the company. Compounding matters, he’s sidelined by injury, and it seems his recovery is progressing slower than expected.
In the headline bout of AEW Worlds End, MJF clashed with Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship, ultimately witnessing Samoa Joe emerge triumphant, winning the AEW World Championship.
Following the match, it was reported that MJF would be taking some time off to recover from his injuries. The Salt of The Earth is also contemplating shoulder surgery while he remains absent from AEW television.
While speaking on the Fightful Select Q&A session, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about MJF’s injury status and recovery progress. Sapp reported that MJF is still in the process of healing. It was added that some aspects of his recovery are taking longer than expected, but it was understood that he was always intended to take some time off.
Whether this decision was made before or after the injury occurred is unclear. However, it became apparent about a month before the pay-per-view event, Worlds End, that he would require an extended period of absence.
“Still healing up, I know some things were progressing slower than what they anticipated but he was always planned for some time off anyway from what I understood. I don’t know if that was once the injury started to happen but it had become clear by a month out of that pay-per-view, Worlds End, that he was going to have a pretty extended amount of time out.
MJF is still keeping mum on his injury status during his AEW hiatus. Interestingly enough, MJF’s merchandise was also pulled from AEW Shop recently. We will have to wait and see when the former AEW World Champion will make his return to the squared circle.
