Cody Rhodes came to SmackDown this week for his intense one-on-one confrontation with his WrestleMania 40 Night 2 opponent, Roman Reigns and outsmarted The Tribal Chief at his own game.
As agreed upon on Monday Night RAW last week, Paul Heyman assured that the Head of the Table would arrive alone to meet Rhodes in the ring, as long as he followed the lead and chose to go alone himself.
Both superstars met on tonight’s edition of SmackDown and engaged in a verbal back-and-forth ahead of their main event clash for the Undisputed WWE Universal title in two weeks in Philidelphia.
The segment closed with Reigns choosing to decline Cody’s handshake as a sign of respect and walking off. But right after, he stopped outside the ring, snapped his finger, and out came his Bloodline members, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso in an attempt to decimate Rhodes. But The American Nightmare, being aware of Roman’s antics, had a backup in place, as Jey Uso and Cody’s WrestleMania partner, Seth Rollins emerged to even the odds.
Following the end of the show, the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble winner broke his silence and took to his X to send a message to Roman Reigns with a cryptic statement that signaled the arrival of the end of the innings in their story.
“Bottom of the 9th.”
With WrestleMania 40 approaching fast, it would be an exciting next few days to watch out as Cody Rhodes firmly marches forward to battle Roman Reigns and tries to rewrite the biggest wrong of his career and finish his story by hosting the World championship high above his head at The Grandest Stage of them all.
