On WrestleMania XL weekend, WWE will be inducting Mike Rotunda and Barry Windham into the Hall of Fame as the US Express. Rotunda had quite a career that spanned almost four decades. First as a wrestler and then as a producer. When his time in WWE came to an end, he said he was fine with how it ended.

Rotunda was one of many that was placed on furlough by WWE on April 15, 2020. He was later released by WWE on September 10 of that year. When speaking Paul Rosenberg about his wrestling career, Rotunda revealed that he was considering leaving the company anyway prior to his release:

My last year as a producer in WWE, I think it was [2020], when Covid hit they furloughed a bunch of people, and I was one of them. Then I came back for a short time after that, but then they let quite a few producers go like myself and Arn Anderson and Dean Malenko — guys who had been there.

This was fine by me, because I was about ready to pull the plug myself. I had my hip operated on and replaced. So, I was out for a couple of months. I told my wife — and that was after a good 13 years of doing it — and I said, ‘after being home for a couple of months, I don’t know if I want to go back to work.’ So, it just kinda worked itself out like that, so it was okay with me.

Even after his release, Rotunda would make appearances as his Irwin R. Schyster character at events such as Raw Legends Night in 2021 and Raw is XXX in 2023. He will next be in the public eye with the upcoming Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal documentary on April 1.
