Tony Khan recently provided an update on the ongoing discussions between AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery. Speaking to Comicbook Nation, Khan emphasized their efforts to negotiate a deal that benefits all parties involved.
Khan highlighted the potential for AEW’s streaming presence on Max, noting that talks are still in progress. He expressed his excitement about the prospect of bringing AEW to Max but stressed the importance of finding a solution that works for everyone.
“We’re actively negotiating right now. Something I would be really excited about would be bringing AEW to Max, and it’s something I think we’ve talked about, it just needs to make sense for everybody,” Khan stated.
Tony emphasized the significance of securing a long-term streaming home for AEW, especially considering their contract is up at the end of the year. Khan believes that finding the right streaming partner should be a strategic move for the fans, ensuring a sustainable solution for those who have eagerly awaited AEW’s content.
“I think when we find a streaming home for AEW, that’s going to be a long-term plan, and given that we’re up at the end of this year, I think one of the reasons I’ve wanted to wait is I think when we get the streaming contract figured out, it should be a long-term solution for the fans so that everybody who’s waited so long to see this — I mean it’s amazing what we’ve accomplished in five years.“
Since 2019, AEW has aired its television shows on Warner Bros. Discovery’s channels. A potential move to streaming could resemble WWE’s Network or Peacock deal, or it could follow the model of RAW’s upcoming move to Netflix next year.
