Roman Reigns recently dismissed Cody Rhodes’ run in AEW, suggesting it amounted to “a whole lot of nothing.” Despite Rhodes’ popularity and success in WWE, Reigns implied that his tenure in AEW did not significantly impact his standing in the wrestling world.
Cody Rhodes unexpectedly left AEW in February 2022, stunning fans. During his time in the promotion, Rhodes was known for his standout performances and for elevating other talent in the ring.
For nearly four years, Roman Reigns has held the WWE Universal Championship, solidifying his status as the face of the company. Reigns has been pivotal in WWE’s growth, including merging with UFC, securing record sponsorships, and striking new media deals.
Amidst changes in the roster, Reigns has remained a constant force. He sees others, like Cody Rhodes, as merely chapters in his ongoing saga. While speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Reigns stated that he believes his magnetism drew people like McAfee and Rhodes to WWE, with Hollywood even taking notice of his success without him having to seek it out. He also missed Cody Rhodes’ AEW run completely.
“Everybody’s story revolves around me. [Cody] is one of many trying to tie this thing up. At the end of the day, he’s just a chapter in the big book. This thing started in August 2020 when I came back and told the whole world that I was the Head of the Table and the head of the greatest wrestling dynasty to ever exist. We have done so many great things. There is a magnetism. You [McAfee] got pulled in. Same thing with Cody. He was off doing who cares, a whole lot of nothing, he saw what we were doing in WWE and he wanted to be part of that. Hollywood, Dwayne, saw what we were doing. I’m the only guy that didn’t have to go to Hollywood. Hollywood came to me.”
Cody Rhodes is set to square off against Roman Reigns on Night Two of WrestleMania 40 for the Undisputed Universal Championship, so we will have to wait and see whether he will be able to finish the story in the end.
