Sting and Darby Allin retained their AEW Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks in an amazing match at AEW Revolution 2024. However, given it was Sting’s retirement match, Tony Khan announced that the titles were vacated and that a tournament would be held to determine the new Tag Team Champions for the company.
AEW then announced the brackets for the tournament with numerous big teams involved including FTR, the Don Callis Family, and more. However, even after involving some of the biggest teams in their tournament, the company didn’t include Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli from the Blackpool Combat Club.
Addressing their exclusion from the tournament, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio revealed that AEW didn’t have any reason to exclude the duo. Not including Moxley and Castagnoli in the tournament was the company’s decision but their move couldn’t be justified in the report.
“I specifically asked why they weren’t in, and there was like, no reason. They just didn’t put them in because, whatever reason – they didn’t put them in.”
Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli haven’t appeared on WWE TV since their victory at AEW Revolution 2024. However, the reason they haven’t been featured is yet to be determined. Ringside News will keep you updated on this story.
