Since his return to WWE, The Rock has been engaged in a feud with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins and is set to make his in-ring return against both men in a tag team match in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Night One. Throughout his feud, the People’s Champion has expressed his power as a member of the Board and has been swearing during his segments.
Not only that, but the star has full freedom over his promos and has been doing everything other superstars have not been able to do in the past few years. This ‘double standard’ has reportedly given rise to frustration among his fellow wrestlers.
Commenting on frustrations superstars reportedly have, Eric Bischoff revealed that WWE has been very smart with the Rock’s promos. However, during his episode of Strictly Business, he also stated that over-using the swearing might not make them more effective in his future promos ahead of WrestleMania 40.
“They have [been entertaining], and I agree with you. I would love to see us get away from them [scripted promos]. When I say us, I don’t mean content-wise as much. It’s not like — I mean, the kind of language that we’re talking about, the kind of stuff that Rock has been saying, particularly in social media. If all of a sudden everybody’s doing it, it won’t matter anymore. And then what do you have? You have to be careful, and I want to believe that that’s what WWE is trying to do.“
“They’re not saying ‘No, never, you’re never going to be able to do it.’ I am hoping that they’re looking at this particular situation… Yes, there’s some latitude because after all, it is The Rock. It is Dwayne Johnson, there’s going to be some latitude there, folks. Just like there has been with every top talent in every company in the world, whether it’s a television company, movie company, whatever. Your top talent is going to be able to get latitude that a lot of other talents aren’t. That’s just a fact of life…”
The Rock has been sending out some of the most unexpected comments for Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, and more during all his segments heading into the match. While the story between all four men looks very interesting, the match must turn out very good to keep the excitement intact for Night Two of WrestleMania.
