TNA Wrestling is gearing up for what they hope will be a memorable year, despite the departure controversy surrounding Scott D’Amore. However, recent developments have stirred fan interest, as it was rumored that The Motor City Machine Guns would leave the company. In light of that, it appears TNA’s recent offer approach to their talent is different from what talent expected.
As previously reported, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin’s contract will be expiring soon, as many believe it will end on April 20th. The duo are scheduled for an appearance for Smash Wrestling in London, Ontario, on April 21, coinciding with TNA’s post-Rebellion TV tapings.
According to Sean Ross Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall, sources indicated Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley’s contracts are expiring within a month, although direct inquiries to both wrestlers went unanswered. However, sources close to TNA expressed belief in the news.
”PWInsider reported that some indicated to them that Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley’s TNA contracts may be up soon. The sources that we spoke to claimed that it would be within the month, but inquiries to both Shelley and Sabin directly went unreturned. However, sources near TNA did tell us that they believe it was true.”
The offers made by TNA lately have apparently been different than expected, with some talent receiving per-date deals rather than full contracts. Although specifics regarding the Motor City Machine Guns were not disclosed, it was noted that they signed new deals with TNA on March 23 of the previous year.
‘‘We’ve also heard a little more. We’re told that TNA’s offers of late have been categorically different than what many were expecting, especially after some of the talent meetings held in recent months. While we can’t speak to the Motor City Machine Guns specifically, we’ve heard that some talent are instead being offered per-date deals instead of full on contracts. We’re working to find out if that is widespread. Motor City Machine Guns were announced as having signed new TNA deals on March 23 of last year.”
Both Sabin and Shelley are highly respected in the wrestling community, with Shelley having worked in various promotions including NXT, NJPW, AEW, ROH, and MLW, while Sabin has made appearances in AEW, NJPW, ROH, and CMLL over the past 15 years. It remains to be seen what they will do in the end.
