The Undertaker has battled some of the most notable figures in his three-decade-long professional wrestling career, except for the one man who was undoubtedly his counterpart in WWE’s former rival promotion, WCW, The Icon Sting.

As it is known, The Deadman and The Vigilante were a part of the WWE roster in 2015 with major speculations that went rapid at the time, that the company would soon pull the trigger on one of his most iconic dream matches in the history of the company.

However, in a shocking revelation made by The Undertaker, former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was highly opposed to the idea of the dream showdown. During a recent edition of his Six Feet Under podcast, Taker stated that McMahon did not see it as a fit for a major show, while The Phenom himself also felt that the showdown would not live up to its expectations.

Moreover, The Undertaker also mentioned the match made no sense as Sting was already on the final leg of his career and concluded that a Sting vs Undertaker match in the late 2000s would have been a blockbuster instead when both were in their prime shape.

“It just didn’t work out. He had a short run in WWE and Vince didn’t want it. For whatever reason, I don’t know what it was. He didn’t feel it. Everybody else was clamoring for this match for quite a few years. A year or two into that character change, I mean, people were already sending me artwork with the billboard or the poster. It just never worked out. The match would have been good, but I don’t think it would have lived up to the expectations that people have for it. People always think about things in a certain sense. I think they thought in their mind of Undertaker, 2007 or 2008 versus Sting. It was later on than that. I can say I was way on the backside of what I was going to do when he got there.”

While the world never got to witness one of the most highly anticipated in-ring matches that would have gone down in history, the debate of an Undertaker vs Sting match and the possibilities of the outcome and the match as a whole would surely continue to live on for generations to come.
