Nic Nemeth’s departure from WWE in September came as a surprise to many. However, since his release, he has been thriving. Notably, Nemeth has stood up for fans who were insulted by The Rock, showcasing his support for the wrestling community even outside of WWE.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently engaged in a social media exchange with Busted Open Radio co-host Dave LaGreca, who criticized Johnson’s WWE return. LaGreca questioned Johnson’s remarks, particularly his reference to LaGreca as “a grown man,” suggesting there was no issue with being passionate about wrestling at any age.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Nic Nemeth came to LaGreca’s defense and that of wrestling fans overall, making it clear that such fans have a right to be invested in such stories.
“There’s genuine people that grew up with these stories and are, as a grown-up, pouring their hearts out … and sometimes they give it and sometimes they take it away. You know what? You have a right to be that invested in stories; that’s what we’re all hoping for, no matter what. So I’m glad you’re that invested that you were so disheveled, but also you [have] got to remember, without you, maybe they don’t switch the story around, maybe they don’t switch everything around.”
Nemeth highlighted the genuine emotions of fans invested in wrestling stories and emphasized their importance in shaping narratives. He addressed the stigma surrounding wrestling fans, acknowledging the stereotype of “neckbeards sitting in their mom’s basement” but humorously defended the concept of living with family, even mentioning the convenience of microwaving pizza rolls for quick meals, before going back to “following Cody [Rhodes] around.”
In case you didn’t know, WWE denied Nic Nemeth’s release request multiple times. As for The Rock, Cody Rhodes did a number on him on RAW this week, so we’ll have to wait and see how their feud will progress in the coming weeks.
