Mercedes Mone’s highly anticipated debut on AEW Dynamite exceeded expectations, marking a significant moment for both her and the promotion. As one of the industry’s most sought-after free agents, Mercedes chose AEW after reported negotiations with WWE fell through in December.

However, Mercedes’ journey towards potentially becoming the highest-paid woman in professional wrestling with AEW began with a grueling rehabilitation process following a devastating ankle injury in May 2023. Wrestling against Willow Nightingale, whom she recently assisted in AEW, Mercedes faced the possibility of her career ending. Yet, she refused to accept defeat.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Mercedes revealed that she is now 100% healthy after pushing herself every day during her challenging rehabilitation. Determined not to let the injury define her, Mercedes persevered through rigorous rehab, workouts, and mental conditioning.

“I love wrestling so much that I could not let the doctor tell me [I won’t wrestle again]. I couldn’t let them say that was going to happen. I didn’t take no for an answer. And I pushed hard every single day. Rehabbing, working out, getting my mind right, meditating. Because again, I wasn’t sure when I was going to come back. I just knew that I was going to come back someday.”
