Will Ospreay made headlines last year when he announced his signing with AEW. Ospreay along with Kazuchika Okada, Jay White, and Katsuyori Shibata, are the latest addition to the promotion’s roster. This trend of signing talents from NJPW lead to speculation about the future direction of NJPW. However, Ospreay believes that NJPW still has promising talent and potential stars to carry the promotion forward.
During a recent appearance on Talk Is Jericho, Ospreay shared his curiosity about NJPW’s next big star and expressed confidence in the promotion’s roster depth. He mentioned wrestlers like Zack Sabre Jr., Finlay, and the War Dogs (Gabe Kidd, Alex Coughlin, & Clark Connors) as talents capable of stepping up.
“I’m very curious who they’re going with. I guess they’re going to go with Zack now, I think that’s the right decision. The guy is nearly fluent in Japanese. That’s the best thing about it. Finlay is getting a push, deservedly so, he works extremely hard. Even the War Dogs (Gabe Kidd, Alex Coughlin, & Clark Connors. They have guys ready to go. Tsuji [Yota Tsuji] is there, Shota [Shota Umino] is there. They have guys ready to go. I’m hoping people don’t give up on the product. I still want people to be invested in New Japan and enjoy the shows. Jack Perry is going over there, so AEW is still supporting them. That’s what you want in a relationship. You want to be able to know, even though these guys are coming over here, not only can we come back and do spot shows with New Japan, we’ll give you some of our guys to make sure the relationship is all good.”
Ospreay hailed AEW’s continuous support for NJPW, highlighting Jack Perry’s forthcoming engagement as evidence of the two organizations’ continued collaboration.
While talent movements between promotions may shift dynamics, Ospreay’s encouragement for fans to remain loyal to NJPW highlights the promotion’s efforts to remain competitive in the business. Meanwhile, Ospreay is preparing to to face-off against Bryan Danielson in a singles match at AEW Dynasty next month.
