Last month, Sting and Darby Allin clinched the AEW Tag Team Champions title and successfully defended their belts against The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution. Sting’s sons were present for the ride, and now one of his sons has revealed when the idea for his appearance in the match was made.

In the AEW Revolution pay-per-view’s main event, Sting and Darby Allin defended their AEW World Tag Team Titles against The Young Bucks. The match featured various callbacks and emotional moments, providing a memorable experience for the attending fans. Sting and Darby Allin would successfully retain their titles in the end, as he retired undefeated.

As part of the match, Sting’s sons Garrett and Steve Jr. donned costumes reminiscent of Surfer Sting (Garrett) and Wolfpack Sting (Steve Jr.). They joined in the entrance and performed a couple of Stinger splashes as a tribute to their father.

While speaking to Jeremy Lambert & Joel Pearl on In The Weeds, Garrett revealed that the idea for him and his brother to be involved in their father’s last match came about in early January. The initial discussion occurred in October 2022, but they didn’t delve into it much until Sting’s retirement announcement was official. Garrett had approximately seven and a half weeks to prepare, come up with plans, and finalize arrangements for their involvement in the match.

“Actually happening, 100% sure, was early January. We had first talked about it in October 2022 where he was like, ‘what do you think about this?’ We really didn’t talk about it too much until the retirement and once that was officially announced. I had about seven and a half weeks to get ready, come up with all the plans and all that stuff.”

Garrett and Steve Jr. enthusiastically joined in the celebration following Sting’s AEW Tag Team Title victory, adding to the joyous atmosphere. However, their involvement took a sudden and dramatic turn when they were viciously attacked by the Young Bucks after the match. This unexpected twist added an extra layer of intensity and anticipation to the upcoming Revolution match.

Despite the tumultuous turn of events, Sting is now embracing his life after retirement, finding contentment in this new chapter. Ultimately, his well-being and happiness are what matter most to him at this moment.
