WWE RAW presented one of the most fast-paced and exciting Gauntlet matches in the history of the flagship show with Sami Zayn rising above the other five competitors to secure a huge opportunity to battle for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40 on tonight’s edition of RAW.
The Gauntlet began with two highly agile superstars, Ricochet and JD McDonagh who threw everything at each other to gain huge momentum at the start of the high-stakes bout. After an interesting back-and-forth, Ricochet connected with his Shooting Star press on McDonagh and pinned him to eliminate him from the match.
The next star to enter the match was Big Bad Bronson Reed who quickly dispatched Ricochet with a Big Splash from the top rope. But Reed did not have much time to celebrate as Sami Zayn rushed to the action as the next entrant of the match.
Zayn and Reed displayed an excellent showing inside the square circle, however, Zayn found an opening to knock off Bronson Reed and eliminate him from the match. But as the next entrant, Shinsuke Nakamura made his way to the ring, Bronson laid out Sami with a hellacious attack, putting Nakamura in an advantageous position.
But despite that, Zayn managed to dodge all the attacks launched by the King of Strong Style and planted him with a Blue Thunder bomb to eliminate Nakamura from the bout.
With Nakamura outlasted from the match, Chad Gable entered the match as the last entrant and waited for Sami Zayn to get back on his feet before beginning the bout. Both men hit each other with everything in their arsenal.
After multiple near falls, submission escapes and German suplexes, Sami Zayn reversed the ankle lock and used a roll-up to pick up the win and become GUNTHER’s challenger for WrestleMania 40. The night ended with Gable endorsing Sami’s win and GUNTHER coming out on the ramp to stare down his Mania challenger.
