Mike Santana, who made a triumphant return to AEW in August last year, had been absent from AEW television for a very long time until his departure from the company this month. In light of his exit, the real reason behind his departure has been revealed.
In case you weren’t aware, Santana and his former tag team partner Ortiz were involved in a memorable and deeply personal feud on AEW Rampage last year. This feud highlighted their exceptional promo skills.
Their No Disqualification match on the October 25th edition of AEW Rampage saw Santana emerge victorious. However, despite this big win, Santana was conspicuously absent from AEW television since that time.
Santana then expressed his frustration over lack of TV time and this ultimately led to him parting ways with AEW this month. According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was noted that Santana’s departure doesn’t come as a surprise, given his long-standing dissatisfaction. Santana had been seeking a singles push that wasn’t materializing, leading to his decision to part ways.
.”Mike Santana, 33, has left the company. This isn’t a surprise as he hasn’t been happy there in a long time. He was wanting a singles push and it wasn’t materializing, so he just wanted out. He beat Ortiz on 10/25 in a great grudge match on television, and then was never used again.”
We will have to wait and see what the future holds for Mike Santana, as fans will always believe AEW simply never utilized him to the best of his abilities.
