Lio Rush made his debut at the AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view back in 2021, but he ultimately didn’t stay in the company for long. It’s been a while since he was in AEW, and Rush doesn’t rule out returning to the company.

Rush’s tenure with the promotion didn’t last long, as he became a free agent after his contract with AEW expired in February 2022. This was right after he spoke out against Tony Khan’s controversial tweet regarding Big Swole.

While speaking to WrestlingNews.co, Lio Rush explained that his stint in AEW was cut short simply because it didn’t work out. Regardless of the specific reasons, he acknowledges that in life, things sometimes don’t align for various people and situations. Reflecting on the “what ifs” regarding different times or situations, he emphasizes that those scenarios didn’t materialize.

“It was cut short because it was cut short. I mean, it just didn’t work out. I say this quite often every time that it is brought up. Yeah, it just didn’t work out and it, but regardless of what those reasons are, things just don’t work out. You know, it’s like that in life for many things and for many people. If it was a different time period, if it was a different situation, if it was, yeah, all of these what ifs, but they weren’t what ifs. It was what was going on in the present time and in that time, things just didn’t work out.”

In the present moment, the partnership didn’t thrive. While he doesn’t rule out a future return and insists the relationship isn’t strained, he sees it as a period where circumstances didn’t align, leading to a mutual parting of ways.

”So you know, not to say that you’ll never see me there again or not to say that the relationship is bad or anything like that. I think it was just a period in time that it just didn’t work out for both parties and we had to split ways.”

During his time with the company, Lio Rush participated in only five matches, a limited engagement largely influenced by his injuries. These physical setbacks even led to a brief retirement from wrestling during that period. Nonetheless, only time will tell when Lio Rush will return to AEW.
