Raquel Rodriguez has proven herself, not only as a remarkable in-ring performer but a fighter even outside the squared circle. While she did make her return after an extended hiatus recently, things did not look good on her recent expedition to Australia with the WWE crew.
As mentioned, Big Latina made a surprise comeback to WWE on the go-home edition of RAW for Elimination Chamber PLE in the last-chance battle royal for a coveted spot in the Women’s Elimination Chamber match.
She displayed an excellent showing and went on to win the over-the-top-rope melee to earn the opportunity. However, shortly after, it was revealed that Raquel had been dealing with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, explaining the reason for her absence.
The syndrome caused massive red spots on her entire skin and is said to have taken a toll on her body, physically and mentally. Her condition even became an issue during WWE’s trip to Perth, Australia for their Elimination Chamber PLE.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Raquel Rodriguez had to skip the Elimination Chamber rehearsals due to a flare-up of her syndrome, with WWE even questioning if she had been brought sooner than expected.
“At one point Jade Cargill was scheduled for the match, but she was replaced by Rodriguez. Rodriguez then on the trip over had a flare up of her Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, the malady that had kept her out of action for two-and-a-half months and there was a question if they had brought her back too soon. It was serious enough that she was unable to participate in the practice match the women did while in Australia and it was touch-and-go whether she would be in the match.”
However, things went just fine, as Raquel Rodriguez emerged for the chamber match with no makeup on her face and delivered a dominant performance inside the physically battering structure. With reports of Raquel’s condition almost leading to her being pulled out of the match, we will have to wait and see if that could affect her position on the road to WrestleMania 40.
